5 Everyday Oral Hygiene Tips to Whiten Teeth

With good oral hygiene, you will always have fresh breath and beautiful teeth. Along with brushing, flossing and rinsing with a mouthwash that contains fluoride, this includes teeth whitening. By following a proper regimen, you can also avoid tartar and plaque that can lead to infection and tooth loss.

For good oral hygiene, consider these tips for whitening teeth

White teeth and proper oral hygiene are synonymous. In other words, when people see someone with bright teeth, they assume that person also has healthy teeth. A few easy-to-follow tips can help an individual accomplish both.

1. Avoid food and beverages that cause stains

One of the simplest ways to whiten teeth is to avoid eating or drinking anything that causes stains. People should stick with foods and beverages that do not cause stains. For those who enjoy coffee and tea, the trick of drinking through a straw helps tremendously. To prevent stains, brush and floss as soon as possible after eating or drinking stain-causing foods or beverages. This is on top of brushing and flossing two to three times per day as part of good oral hygiene.

2. Use activated charcoal

Another great tooth-whitening solution involves brushing with activated charcoal. Considering this is black, people think this turns their teeth black as well. In reality, the opposite happens. The activated charcoal gently removes stubborn stains from tooth enamel.

3. Use baking soda

Baking soda is another natural product that can remove stains from tooth enamel. The key with this is to use it a couple of times each week to prevent any damage. Not only is baking soda a mild abrasive, but it also creates an alkaline environment within the mouth. That is what prevents the growth of bacteria that can lead to tooth decay.

4. Use teeth whitening strips

When visiting the store, people can find many different whitening strips, all claiming to do the same thing. However, because some work great and others fail, it is important to ask for a recommendation from a dentist.

5. Brush with hydrogen peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide is a natural bleaching agent. What makes this particular option so good for teeth whitening is that it also promotes a healthy mouth. The reason is that hydrogen peroxide kills bacteria in the mouth. For an oral hygiene regimen, an individual can swish a small amount in the mouth and then spit it out. It is important to never swallow hydrogen peroxide. Therefore, this is something that only adults should do.

Transform your yellowed or dingy teeth

As you can see, there are several viable ways to achieve teeth whitening at home. At the same time, some of these complement your daily oral hygiene regimen. Of course, if you have tried one or more of these but without success, you can always talk to a dentist about other possibilities. Often, teeth whitening performed in a dental office gets better results.
